Spider-Man vs. Venom Raid Event

Spider-Man vs. Venom Raid Event

Spider-Man vs Venom Marvel War of Heroes Guide

Well, it looks like Mobage said...you know those things we did in Rage of Bahamut that cause 40% of our player base to jump ship? Lets do those things in Marvel War of Heroes.

So, the new Spider-Man vs. Venom Raid Event had some very unfortunate twists that people weren't really able to plan for.

Twist 1: Raider Cards

So, in previous events the Raider Cards that players received from previous events generally had an 'okay' buff to Raid Bosses. This was a brilliant system that allowed players to participate even if they didn't have a fortune to spend. It was also a nice consolation prize for players who scored in the mid range of a previous event.

Apparently this was unacceptable, so Mobage decided to drop down the effectiveness GREATLY of non-purchased Raider Cards.

Sentinel is doing 350% instead of the 600% that previous SRs did. The Hercules that people were spending a bunch of PP to try to earn out of card packs is only doing 200%...which is just sad considering that Black Cat does 250%. Of course not as sad as Sifs 150%...there's sure a point in fusing and maxing that...

Spider Woman, Thing, Scarlet Spider, and Iron Fist all do the normalized raid damage. I have no idea why they would have made this changes to Raider cards other than a blatant cash grab.

So, all those people who were purchasing Sentinels for 10PP each...sorry, you got screwed.

Twist 2: The Raid Deployment Points

So, what's pointless? Oh yeah, attack power. You have that energy heavy feeder account with only 10 Attack and Defense points? Congratulations, you're the raid event winner here.

This system completely changes the way players need to approach the raid event in order to do well. The reason is, previously a player could just use a single raider card, attack over and over, and slowly whittle away big enemies. Not anymore. A player could also simply tag every enemy once for shards using a single card to gain PP. They can still do it, but instead of costing 4-5% of their Attack Power, it's costing them 1/6 of it for each swat.

A player is given 6 Raid Deployment Points that recharge at a rate of once every 20 minutes. This means that a player can get a full set of attacks in once every two hours, or recharge the points using their PP.

Now, here's the bright/dark side of this system. No matter how powerful your deck is...it cost the same 1 RDP to attack. So, if you only have 1 Raider Card, you get screwed, if you have 5 good raider cards, you are benefiting.

So, with the new system it would be most beneficial to try to stack five raid cards.

So, what to do now?

Well, ideally you're going to want to stack five of the highest level Raider Cards you can get. The sooner you can get them the better. The way this event is set up costs pretty much everybody significantly more to do well in.

For example. Previously if you had five Silver Surfers the deck would cost about 75 Attack per Shot. This mean that a player with 300 attack (Standard for anybody stacking that kind of firepower during a Raid Event) would get 6 attacks in. A player like me would have had 50 attack power leftover for another mini attack as well.

Currently, if I had five Iron Fist the deck I would be able to get those same 6 shots in, but now I wouldn't be able to get that extra attack from my attack power.

Now, for the really bad part. If you did well in the previous event by using one Silver Surfer (A lot of people did this) you can't anymore. You could normally attack close to 20x with a Single Silver Surfer before needing to use a PP. Now you can attack....6.

In essence. Single card attacks have had the shit nerfed out of them. Why? Because Mobage thinks that if you HAVE to buy five UR IF to do well that you WILL buy five UR IF to do well. Of course, players like me see this for what it is, a blatant pay to win set up. Last I checked, I played games to challenge/enjoy myself, not buy my way to the top.

I'm not saying I'm leaving Marvel...but I am definitely eyeballing some of the prettier games out there.

  1. It's certainly been a downer for a lot of people. The continued efforts to "level the playing field" only mean that now the only thing that can give you and edge is spending. Being mart about how you play and build and utilize your resources during an event is no longer welcome.
It's a shame really - I had been looking forward to this game for so long, and for quite a while it seemed like a breath of fresh air while RoB continued to fence us in with restrictions and new mechanics that stifled our ability to build effectively.
For me that's really what these games provide - a chance to build something, to continually improve ones' decks through creativity and guile.
It's not completely gone... SHIELD Training still provides an opportunity to put your cards on the table so to speak, but you know eventually they're going to incorporate some of the things they've done in RoB there too, and that will simply kill the last bit of enjoyment for me.

    1. Yeah, I don't get why they would implement the same changes to Marvel that caused people to jump ship in Rage.

      It's just foolish.

  2. You forgot to mention how the new system makes assisting others pointless. It's a good thing that I only use these raid events to farm for PP for the training events because I can only imagine the frustration for players who try and place high.

    1. I will still rank top 2000 under the current system, which is all I really ever try for since top 300 is so competitive. But I'm wondering why I would keep playing.

There's a reason so many players left Rage for Marvel, and they are making the same mistakes here. It's as if they have the most incompetent staff in the history of gaming.

Off the top of my head, I can think of 10 ways to more effectively monetize their game, but judging from the decisions they have made, they obviously don't hire consultants.

  3. Level 32 (zz0413) Well put. I'm new to the game (just had the 14 day trade ban lifted) and stinks to hear this news. What advice do you have for me to try and do somewhat well in this event? :-/

    1. Stay active. If you don't have a raider card and no ability to get one you just need to attack each boss once then ask for support.

It'll be the best you can do.

  4. Hey Luc,

I agree with you that this new point system is just a ploy to get players buying PP. I didn't play RoB but if there are shenanigans like this going on, I see why you jumped ship.

My guess is their business plan is as follows:

step 1. make fun new game.

step 2. achieve critical mass of players (2 million in this case)

step 3. stick it to them hard.

step 4. make fun new game

I'm with you on strike number one for MWoH.

  6. Hey Lucarda!

Wow! I noticed that only the green shards give away PP or 1/2 PP. And now each (high lvl) boss will consume several PP to be beaten. This raid is a freaking PP eater!!! Does it make any sense not to spend any PP because they will be more valuable afterwards?

I think this system was made like this for those players with stats like: 10 Energy, 10 Def, XXXX Attack and always ranking the highest positions. Actually a lvl. 20 player with the same raider cards is just the same. The only difference will be the PP each player is willing to spend. Good thing also about this event is that I won't be all day with my phone in my hands to achieve a good rank. Venom card is not as good as I expected so I think I will not be too worried about this event.

Btw, you made wide clear you don't like this system but you could talk a bit more about its nature. Ex: Normal attacks are not just 3 light attacks, they have a different multiplier (~3.5). The same thing happens with Blitz attacks.

Keep up the good work! ;)

    ReplyDelete

    1. Pretty sure the multipliers are 4x for Normal and 10x for Blitz.

    2. After some more raiding, yep, you are right.

Also noticed that supporting has dramatically decreased between members. I understand this as supporting doesn't give you any advantage right now (no -5 attack power bonus). It really hurts to let go a boss which you have heavily damaged and it only needs a couple more hits...

    3. Never having played RoB, could someone detail what happened there and why people strted leaving the game?

    4. Nacao - Nobody is using a 10x Energy, 10x Defense, XXX attack stat setup. The TOP level players in this event run about 100 energy, 150-180 Def, and the rest in attack stat.

A level 20 player could have gone a lot further with the old set up as well. This new system makes it almost impossible for new players to do well.

Yes the skills have multipliers but...meh. I still use a single attack and ask for support. I don't push until enraged come out.

ASTRO - The bazaar system that Mobage released crashed the entire economy. Then the event rewards got progressively worse while events cost progressively more.

During the last Holy War (shield enforcement training equivalent) Every member of my order spend 400+ PP (I spend over 600)and we were only able to attain rank 43 and the rewards were worth about 50PP.

      Delete
    5. How in the world do you get 600PP to spend on a single event? By your own calculations (at least on the current event) you'll only score about 125 farming low level bosses for green shards. You'd have to spend hundreds of dollars to get them through the store. How do you do it?

      Delete
    6. We used HP. That was my explanation of Holy War in Rage of Bahamut and I only used PP so people could understand the equivalent.

We gain HP in Rage of Bahamut by trading, selling, enhancing, etc. There are lots of ways to generate HP in Rage, although the economic collapse makes it harder and harder.

  7. Trying to build up my PP for now and trading cards for the next S.H.I.E.L.D. Event, where it actually matters what kind of deck you build over time - unless they fuck that up too. I have no interest in this current event - I just can't get into it.

  8. As a newish player (level 39, played almost 2 weeks), I have no idea what is going on in these events, there is very little information in the game pointing me to put some energy into leveling my Black Cat cards from the last event. How does one even determine which is a "Raider" card and which isn't. Also (and a bit off topic), I'm in an alliance that I am the only active member of, which is more than a little frustrating. How does one track down a decent middle of the road alliance (active and engaged with out being elitist douchbags), the game has very little in the way of communication tools.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I'm the alliance leader of a group that ranks in the 1400 - 2000 range (good enough to get 2 SR cards from events). Leave your current alliance from the bottom of the alliance page, go to Menu > Player Search > Search for nerdcav > Click on "Gorram Reavers" at the top of my player profile > Click "Ask to join". We have a website with a forum page for better communication. Good luck!

      Delete
    2. Generally if you look on forums and post on forums you will find a solid alliance. Or you can join Nerdcavs.

Generally during an event they list 'this card will have an extra effect in an upcoming raid' listed under the reward. Besides that, we go off of previous experiences. Normally the SR and R cards are Raider cards for the upcoming event, so we assume they will continue to be.

Oh yes, and Line is the preferred app for communication for a vast majority of Alliances. I believe every one of the top 100 use Line.

  9. Not sure why everyone is so butthurt over these changes, maybe that's just it, changes, nobody likes changes usually right away.

But here's my opinions on the new format, take em or leave em.

First, now each player has a chance to do well in raid events, low level players and high level as everyone gets 6 RDs. Now those accounts that have 10 def, decent energy, and 500 atk power don't get any benefit to screwing over their other attributes to get lots of attack power. Seems like a good balancing fix there to me.

The raid event has ALWAYS been about PP and Raider Cards, I placed top 300 in the Doom event, and that's exactly what you needed, lots of PP and elite raid cards. I don't see any change from that to now, you needed to spend $$$ to win, or others needed to spend $$$ to borrow you elite raid cards.

Now, the change that sucks is attacking other's bosses results in no reduction to RDs (it'd be nice if it only took 1/2 RDs to help others). And the nerf to previous events raid cards and cards given out prior (Herc and Sif) kinda stings, but everyone has to deal with it, and you still need to get the better raider cards from packs to excel.

The green shards are now awesome, all pps and eps. A nice change I believe.

Overall, changes are usually never good for most people and the fact that the Venom card's ability isn't group A, and the other reward cards are awful. I wanted the SSR Spidey, but degrade to Bruiser Def, terrible ability. It's hard enough to trade [Hell Bike] Ghosty.

My two pennies, thanks for reading and great blogspot Lucarda, I love the info you provide!!

    1. On your first point: Yes, now everybody's feeder accounts with 10 atk and 10 stamina get a huge bonus during this event. Doesn't sound like much of a balance fix to me.

Your second point. Yes, lots of people needed the Raider cards. Technically, you made more PP from trade ins than you could spend so you didn't need PP if you had the raider cards. Before you could get one raider card and attack using it over again, now you need to get five raider cards for the 'new' system.

The shard point that you are loving...you notice that the Red shards no longer give out PP or EP? Do you remember how few green shards you get during the second half of the event? Have you noticed that the amount of green shards you get don't ramp up with boss difficulty? Just wondering if you've though that change through yet.

People should be butthurt over the changes though. It's okay for any game developer to make money but when they continually make it more and more difficult to compete without spending more and more money, they fail as game designers.

I can think of 10 different ways off the top of my head for them to make MORE money, without making it harder for people to enjoy themselves.

      Delete
    2. Lucarda I don't understand how having 10atk XXX energy and 10 def makes you benefit from this raid event. It doesn't make sense. Do people with low attack and defense get to fight level 2 venoms over and over?

      Delete
    3. No. But people with extremely high energy will have an easier time summoning monsters, especially last couple days, and they still get 6 attacks.

And what kind of accounts have this type of set up? Illegitimate alternate accounts! So mobage decided to directly nerf heavy attack accounts (which generally are legitimate MAIN accounts) and buff accounts that push defense/energy...illegitimate alternate accounts.

So, yeah, the change is stupid.

      Delete
    4. Yea, but, c'mon, having lots of energy to summon more bosses doesn't mean you're gonna do better. If I never play a mission, I still have 4 Venom's in my queue, and everytime 1 goes down, another appears.

      Your logic there escapes me.

On your point of me talking about green shards, I didn't think how worthless the red ones are now. You got a good point there.

Hopefully, the purple shards have ppp and ppk rewards, along with, HOPEFULLY FOR ONCE, not Annihilus and Ultron, I mean seriously those 2 cards are overdone.

But, I do agree with you that this all could of been done differently, but it is what we have to work with now, I doubt they will go a new route again, but you never know.

      Thanks for your input.

  10. As far as it goes, how do we make this work? I'm currently sitting on a deck with 3 fused Sentinels and 4 unfused rare raiders - and I'm not sure how to make the most of this. I wanted to farm PP from this event for the next S.H.I.E.L.D. event, but I'm not sure what the best way to get green shards is now. I could try hitting each boss once and pulling up a new one, but that is risky since no-one has much incentive to take out my bosses. On the other hand, if I blow all my RDS on one boss, then that's all I get for awhile. Blowing PP while trying to farm PP is stupid. So, I'm taking a big deep breath and trying to make the best of it, but I don't know how to proceed - any ideas?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well...technically the last hit reward is the best for green shards for PP. Ideally if you wanted to farm PP you would have kept summoning and killing low level bosses without ever accepting the rewards. (This would ensure you continue to get low level bosses you can kill in 1 strike).

Then you would just claim them the last day of the event.

      Delete
    2. I was trying this and just realized it doesnt hold more than 5 in your unclaimed rewards, so you if you dont claim any more than that they are just lost. More BS

    1. There are people who are making significantly less effort, but not sitting out.

There are also several top level players, some of which who spent hundreds of dollars on the game selling their cards for cash on neoseeker because they anticipate the game going the same direction as Rage of Bahamut.

The problem is at the moment there isn't another good game to jump to.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Using Mutual friends to do so. For example, I have 35 Alliance Members I can trade with, that means I can trade with any one of their 35 Team Members, this means I have over 1200 people I can trade with at any moment, I just have to trade to my alliance member first.

This isn't counting how many I have if I use my team members, and friends of my team members, nor is it counting how many I have if I'm willing to do two jumps out using a friend of a friend.

In Line we have trade groups where tons of these members are friends and post what they are selling/buying and often their alliance so you know if you have a route into their alliance.

      That's how you trade rapidly.

      Delete
    2. Guess this may be a stupid question, but any addresses to these trading groups / forums?

I've got PP but no one willing to trade cards for it.

  14. They also took away the top reward card for the alliance ranking. Everything about this change smells of trying to gouge its players/supporters b/c you can no longer work with your alliance to get the best card you have to spend $$$ for pp and top raider cards so you can have a chance to get the Venom, the individual rank rewards margin is smaller as well I'm done spending cash till they fix these changes and I'm about this close to throwing in the towel on this game.

  19. Hi Lucarda, another new user here to the Card game genre, (less than 2 weeks, Lvl 35).

Your blogs have been great, and I wish I had read them earlier on. I messed up a lot of things at the start by not understanding the boost. A lot of good cards now gone :(

What's the benefit to attacking a Venom once and then leaving him for the others? Is there a negative if he flees?
I see in my alliance where there will be 5 venoms waiting to be attacked. I would have assumed it would be better to kill a Venom, and then move on.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The negative if he flees is you get no reward. I attack him once and then leave him to others because I will always get 10 red shards off him, a green shard, and some points when my team finishes him. It used to be you could accumulate a lot of green shards this way as well but they nerfed that.

I can hit once and leave him because my team will finish him over 90% of the time. If you don't have a team that will finish him quickly this doesn't work as well.

If your team doesn't finish the job well, then yes, you have to finish them yourself unfortunately.

      Delete
    2. So I guess it can come down to what benefits me vs my alliance/other members.

Also, do you know if it makes any difference to collect the rewards once you get them or wait till nearer the end?

      Delete
    3. I collect rewards every time I hit 100 of a shard type, but part of that is that I am still trying to flesh out a raider deck, and hope springs eternal that I can score 2 Thing SRs from the red shards.
Honestly, though, I think I am better off with 2x Arachne SR than 1x the Spidey SSR reward, so I may slow things down at some point and just accrue power packs for SHIELD Training and hope the rewards are more appealing. Arachne will upgrade my attack deck a little bit in the meantime.

  21. Hey lucarda, so that strategy for farming PP. I thought the level of the venoms increased along with your progress in the missions?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The strategy for farming PP would be to attack low level venoms that you can kill in one hit using light attack and not claiming your rewards from it.

You get 10 green shards for killing blow no matter the difficulty. High level venoms will only appear if your point total increases. It has nothing to do with mission progress. So if you never claim rewards until the last day, you will constantly get 10 green shards per kill. This would be about 60 green shards every 2 hours. In the end if you checked the game 6 times in a day (so over the course of 12 hours, 5-10 minutes every 2 hours) you would end up with about 5000 green shards which have a theoretically have a 25% chance at PP and 25% chance at 1/2 PP. 5000 shards would be 500 turn ins, 125 full PP and 125 1/2 PP. This isn't counting the red shard turn ins.

  23. Like a lot of people, I moved on from RoB after it stopped being fun, began to be less and less cost efficient, and entirely too dynamic(some change is good; too much change that never allows a skilled player to develop is not). Anyway, I swung over to Marvel because it was young and pretty, I liked the Marvel line, and it seemed that Mobage had a chance to really learn from what happened in RoB and make a fresh start.

Well, nuts to that apparently. Things aren't as dire in WoH as RoB, but I am starting to consider what feels like an inevitable just to another game. The problem is that they Cygames and Mobage seem to have a complete corner on these card games. So, my question is where does that leave me? Do I just suck it up and play Mobage's game or is there another game in town, so to speak?

Many of the other card games try to do artwork like Magic the Gathering or fantasy novel covers, which just doesn't really appeal to a lot of gamers.

Current Runners in the card game Genre that aren't run by mobage are:

      Legend of the Cryptids
      Dark Summoner
      Cerberus Age - Meh
      And
Ayakashi - Zynga game. Zynga tends to monetize like Mobage.

Honestly, out of that four if you were going to bounce over to one I would say Ayakashi since it's the newest out of the group I believe and has anime styling.

With carnage released you should be done with your shard farming phase and attacking him. If you intended to farm PP for the entire event, you still shouldn't have claimed any of your rewards and should be 1 shotting easy bosses since green shards are the only ones that give out PP.

    2. Thank you,

I have not really been using any Power Packs, so i have 10 or 15 of them sitting in my present list. I should just keep gathering these and try to trade for higher level cards?

    3. The ones in your present list are most likely "personal" power packs, which cannot be traded. Still, you may want to hold off on using any for this unless you are close to moving up to a higher tier of rewards.

  28. I've always enjoyed your blog, and have found it an essential addition to my own learned tactics. I had a new phone and decided to set up a low energy account and dev it slowly, the aim being to transfer over once i'd leveled enough. That account has outperformed my lvl 83 despite being only lvl27 @ the event start. I feel sorry for those spending hundreds if not thousands on the game. It's such a shame that profit rules out diversity and inclusion in a game supposedly about heroes. The game developers and mobage use their dark powers everytime.
    keep up the good work

    1. Thanks for reading :)

Yeah, it kind of sucks when dev's can't stop touching stuff that isn't broken.

  29. I love how everyone is complaining. It makes me sit back and smile. You complain because you spent money to build deck and now its worthless in this raid, so you want to leave...that is funny and laughable!

First off, if you have a stronger deck, it still is better than a weaker deck, so people are wrong there. Second, why not level out the playing field! Why should you get an advantage cus you stupidly spent hundreds of dollars to get better cards and I have not and don't have a snowballs chance in hell in battle..so, you complain and start up petitions cus your feelings are hurt. LOL
If you play your marbles right, you can move up significantly in this game depending on how you attack and when...

overall, its a game! Get a life.

    1. Wow, that's a lot of passion you put into your complaint about complaining.
I've spent about $10 on this game. I have a decent deck. I don't like the changes, and I'm sorry you don't like me and so many others not liking the changes.

    2. I guess my other comment was "removed" because it was right...Ron, you have no basis for that comment, i never said I didnt' like you or others..so don't put words in my mouth.

    3. I've never spent a dime and have a full UR+ Deck with UR+ I'm not using and SSR on the side.

I complain because certain changes make the game unplayable for people who don't spend money. Meaning, that no matter how well you 'play your marbles' you will get nowhere.

    4. Also, I'm the only one who can remove comments. I wouldn't have removed it unless you were advertising for other websites. You probably never logged in before posting it because you obviously have the IQ of a gnat.

    5. I didn't put words into your mouth, but I could have phrased that part of my response better. How about:
"...I'm sorry you don't like me not being in favor of the changes, like so many others."

    1. I'm well aware of the glitch. I'm well aware of how easy it is for Mobage to track as well, so I wouldn't advise using it. Also, do not post the glitch on my site. I prefer not to help people engage in exploits.

    4. yes, but do you Mobage would do anything?

    5. I doubt it since this isn't hacking, this is exploiting their mistakes (which is more of an ethical dilemma). However this is Mobage we're talking about, expect the unexpected.

    6. There is no ethical dilemma when it comes to exploiting. Exploiting bugs in ALL games has virtually always been punished with bans. In WoW, full guilds got banned for exploiting bosses. In Guild Wars 2, a huge amount of players were banned for exploiting craft item prices at launch. Search the term, banned for exploit, and see how many games come up.

I understand that the word exploit in life means simply to take advantage of which makes people think 'hur dur dur, see exploit means take advantage of..hur dur dur...I'm saavy...hur dur dur..'

But in gaming it shouldn't even be called an exploit. It should be called a cheat.
